benefits of eggs

Keep those extra pounds away by adding 3 eggs in your diet. A study was done to evaluate the effects of eggs on weight-loss and the components of the metabolic syndrome in overweight men. All the participants followed carbohydrate-restricted diet which is 10-15 percent of total calories but some were randomly assigned to eat three eggs per day while the rest ate egg substitutes. The result was that eating eggs increased HDL but not LDL. Since low HDL contributes to the metabolic syndrome, increasing HDL levels is good. The addition of eggs did not reduce the benefits that a low- carbohydrate diet had on the other components of the metabolic syndrome. These results suggest that eggs should be preferred food item in carbohydrate restricted diets.
