This is an infection or inflammation of the bladder, the sac-shape organ that stores the urine produced by our kidneys. If you get cystitis, you may also get urethritis, or inflammation of the urethra. Sometimes cystitis and urethritis are referred to collectively as lower urinary tract infection or UTI.
Cystitis is usually cause by bacteria that have made their way into the bladder, generally through the urethra, the tube that discharges urine out of the body. The most common of these bacteria is Escherichia coli, which is found in the rectal area. However, other bacteria or diseases can also cause cystitis.
Here are some basic cares for Cystitis:
- Drink at least 10 glasses of fluid per day. Reduce the about of tea, coffee, and alcohol you consume. This can irritate the bladder.
- Limit intake of high-calcium foods like, dairy foods, such as milk, cheese, and yogurt while you have cystitis.
- Put a warm pack ā hot water bag or bottle ā between your legs or on your tummy or back for relief of pain.
- Take one teaspoon of sodium carbonate (baking soda) in a glass of water and repeat every hour for three hours. This makes the urine less acidic as well as relieves the burning.
- Visit you doctor if the symptoms continue after 24hrs. Take any prescribed medicine (usually antibiotics and pain relief) exactly as your doctor directs. Do not stop until the course of treatment is completed.
