We all know that an early workprint of “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” was leaked on the Internet on April 1. Although not yet final, the version included all scenes and most special effects, which means that the film was, say, about 70-80 percent completed. Understandably, 20th Century Fox was devastated by the leak, thinking it would kill the movie’s chances at the box-office from the start.
Instead, Wolverine still whack the theaters at the opening of $85 million weekend, and thus became the biggest opening of the year, both in the US and international theaters. This is, by all standards, a very impressive start, movie-oriented publications are pointing out, regardless of the fact that an early workprint had leaked a month prior to it. This, by all accounts, should make Fox realize the kind of luck it had – and not complain about spilt milk.
