Ways to Save Water at HomeDo you want to lower that water bill? Wicked! Just replace water-sucks old bathroom fixtures to save major H2O and money.

  • Dishwashers – change it out if your dishwasher was built before 1994, and you’ll save more than $30 per year in utility costs.
  • Faucets – in your bathroom, if your faucet’s not a low-flow version and pours out more than 2 gallons per minute, attach a faucet aerator. You’ll save up to $80 per year on utility bills.
  • Shower heads – if your shower head blasts more than 3 gallons per minute, switch it out for a low-flow one.
  • Toilets – replace your pre-1993 toilet that was the year regulations changed. Compared to an old-school 3.5 gallon-per-flush toilet, an EPA Water Sense-labeled toilet will use 1.3 gallons or less.
  • Washers – replace it if it’s more than 10 years old and note, front-loaders save more water than top-loaders. An Energy Star-qualified washer can save you $145 per year between power and water bills.
  • Toilet Rebate – find local rebates available if you change out your toilet and check also with your local water department, many offer rebates to help cover the costs of new water fixtures (some even give them away).

Here are some benefits: Clicking your heels over water savings, we are using and polluting our water faster than we can replenish our clean supply – so saving is a big deal! Another is you will not sell the farm to pay your bills. A few changes can save you $170 per year on your water and sewer bills alone. Lastly, saving so much energy could power a twister. Since it takes energy to treat our water, if one out of 100 family homes retrofitted with water-efficient fixtures, we’d save enough energy to power 909 homes for a year. So, guys think about it now!
