Not really so, <a href="http://lifehacker.com/5595104/the-science-behind-having-a-bad-day-and-how-to-solve-it" target="_blank">LifeHacker</a> says after going through all the trouble of looking up recent studies on how we perceive reality on these days and how to alter our perception of them to make them go away.</p>
<p>“Reflect on the negative feeling you have right now. Is it stress? Anxiety? Frustration? What caused it? Try to label it in one to three words, but no more! For instance, it might be ‘frustration with clients’ or ‘anger from [clients].’ You know, something like that. Once you’ve labeled it, do not think about the feeling or events anymore. Move on and only refer back to the label if necessary. Matthew Lieberman, an associate professor at UCLA, has shown that the simple act of putting our feelings into a word or two can dramatically reduce the effect of those feelings. When you’re angry, simply attaching the word ‘anger’ to your feeling makes you less angry,” LifeHacker writes for the first step in the process.</p>
<p><span id="more-3977"></span>“Remember that the outcome of the previous minute is not indicative of the outcome of the next minute. Likewise, the last hour has no bearing on the next hour, and this morning is no indication of what this afternoon will bring,” LifeHacker says of step 3. That is to say: there is no such thing as a bad day. “The statistics show that people who believe in bad luck will have more accidents on Friday the 13th. Those who have a negative attitude are more likely to endow normal little mishaps with some mystical significance. Some psychologists even suggest that it’s a way of subconsciously avoiding responsibility for our actions. ‘It was Friday 13th, so I was bound to stick my fingers with superglue’ or ‘Accidents happen in threes, so after the first mishap the next two were inevitable.’ Of course it’s nonsense,” Peter J. Bentley, PhD, writer of “Why [Expletive] Happens: The Science of a Really Bad Day,” also says.</p>

In fact, you can have a sleep disorder and not even know it.</p>
<p>Basically, there is no normal number of hours that quantifies a good sleep, just like there&#8217;s no normal shoe size. Most adults need seven to nine hours a night; others manage just fine with six. It&#8217;s even possible to get too much sleep, since spending excess time in bed can be a sign of another health problem, such as depression or chronic fatigue syndrome.</p>
<p>According to the 2007 British study, they found out that people who slept the same amount of time (seven hours) each night lived longer, on average, than people who adjusted their schedules to either add or subtract hours from their nightly slumber. Finding your own ideal sleep/wake cycle—and staying consistent—is key to healthy sleep.</p>

<p>Eight percent of the study population (30,397 adults) reported sleeping five hours a day or less (naps included) and analysis showed that they had twice as much risk of having cardiovascular disease than people who reported seven hours of daily sleep. Nine percent of the subjects reported sleeping nine hours or more a day, and they also had a high risk of cardiovascular disease. All the results were adjusted for race, sex, age, smoking, drinking alcohol, BMI, physical activity, hypertension, diabetes and depression.</p>
<p>The study findings suggest that abnormal sleep duration adversely affects cardiovascular health. Sleep disturbances may be a risk factor for cardiovascular disease even among apparently healthy subjects.</p>
<p><span id="more-3908"></span>People sleeping for six or eight hours a day also had a risk of cardiovascular disease, even if less serious. The link between sleeping five hours or less a day and cardiovascular disease was strongest in adults under 60 [years of age] and in women. After excluding from the results subjects suffering from diabetes, depression or hypertension, the higher risk of cardiovascular disease remained for people sleeping five hours or less and nine hours or more per day.</p>
<p>People that sleep five hours or less, usually suffer from sleep deprivation that might cause reduced insulin sensitivity, elevated blood pressure and increased sympathetic activity and lead to hardening of the arteries. People that sleep too much, nine hours or more, can cause an underlying sleep-related breathing disorder or poor sleep quality.</p>

But to many women, questions about side effects, hormone combinations and length of hormone use are still unanswered, causing confusion. And some continue to take hormones to relieve menopausal symptoms because they don&#8217;t know where they fall in the HRT spectrum.</p>
<p>Attempting to clarify the risks versus the benefits, a report published in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention, and conducted by researchers at the University of Southern California, looked at data from a large trial group, called the California Teachers Study. Investigators were particularly interested in the more than 2,800 women in the study who were diagnosed with breast cancer.</p>
<p>When looking at hormone use, investigators found women who reported using just estrogen therapy for 15 years or more had a 19 percent greater risk of breast cancer compared with women who never used hormone therapy.  And for women who used an estrogen and progestin combination or EPT for more than 15 years, their risk of developing breast cancer jumped to 83 percent.</p>
<p><span id="more-3888"></span>&#8220;This is evidence that the story is complicated,&#8221; said Dr. Tanmai Saxena, an MD/PhD student at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California. &#8220;The benefits of hormone therapy for relief of postmenopausal symptoms among women are clear, but the risks are more complicated than we had previously thought.&#8221;</p>
<p>Risk also varied according to a woman&#8217;s BMI or body mass index with the greater risks for thinner women. That was surprising, because other studies have shown obesity to be linked to breast cancer. But when using hormones the statistics were different. Those with a BMI less than 30 appeared to have an increased risk of breast cancer with combined hormone therapy; while the risk was strongest among women with BMI less than 25. In contrast, obese women or those with a BMI of 30 or higher, had no further increase in risk associated with using combined hormone therapy.</p>

Recent research comes to show though that, comparatively, it’s not the women who overdo it with the guilt trip but the men, who actually feel less guilty than they should, the <a href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/7079068/Women-feel-more-guilt-than-men.html" target="_blank">Telegraph</a> says.</p>
<p>“Feelings of guilt are more intense among females, not only among adolescents but also among young and adult women. They also show the highest scores for interpersonal sensitivity. This difference is particularly stark in the 40 to 50-year-old age group. The data also suggest that female teenagers and young women have higher scores than males of the same age,” Etxebarria says of the findings of the study.</p>
<p>“Educational practices and a whole range of socializing agents must be used to reduce the trend towards anxious-aggressive guilt among women and to strengthen interpersonal sensitivity among men,” she says. In women, the feeling of guilt is rather socially conditioned, she further says. “The anxious-aggressive kind of guilt is more common in people who have been raised in a more blame-imposing environment, and who are governed by stricter rules about behavior in general and aggression in particular,” Extebarria adds.</p>
<p><span id="more-3878"></span>The study was conducted on three different age groups divided equally in men and women. 156 teenagers, 96 youngsters and 108 older adults were interviewed in the study, answering various questions on what made them feel guilty and ranking the empathy they felt for those around them.</p>

Most of the time the pain is caused from a tumor, but there is the chance pain begins somewhere other than the cancer itself. Surviving cancer and the treatments needed beat cancer can be extremely difficult, especially when excruciating pain accompanies the situation. Finding a way to manage the pain of cancer can help an individual persevere through the ordeal.</p>
<p>Pain can be acute or chronic. Acute pain is severe, but short-lived and chronic is pain that lasts for longer periods of time, and can range from mild to severe. Sometimes patients will experience breakthrough pain, which is pain that breaks through medications prescribed to the patient.</p>
<p>According to the National Comprehensive Cancer Network&#8217;s (NCCN) August 2005 pain prevention report, one-third of cancer patients experience pain with their treatments. The NCCN also reports that nearly two-thirds of patients with recurring cancer or advanced stages of cancer experience pain.</p>
<p>Pain control is possible, even for those suffering from cancer, and it can give a patient a better quality of life. Pain in cancer patients is most often a result of the cancer itself, but sometimes it can result from a specific treatment, such as radiation therapy.</p>
<p><span id="more-3855"></span>Pain can be relieved through several ways. For example, pain control can be through medications, relaxation methods, acupuncture or mental therapy sessions. Each patient is unique and pain can be evaluated through a cancer team made up of specialists such as an oncologist, anesthesiologist, pain specialists and your physician.</p>
<p>It is important for you to discuss any pain you experience with your doctor or medical professional so they can figure out what methods would work best for you. The earlier pain is ministered to, the easier it will be to handle it during your cancer treatments.</p>
<p>If you experience pain that is unrelated to your cancer diagnosis, it is important to find the best method to stop the pain before beginning your treatment. For example, arthritis pain prevention can be found through physical therapy sessions, water therapy or oral medications.</p>
<p>If a patient suffers from cancer in the spinal cord, he or she may need to learn about back and neck pain control. This type of pain occurs because the cancer causes the spinal cord to compress, causing sharp pains in the back and neck regions.</p>
<p>Pain control means finding a way for you to live a functional life, especially when you are trying to battle cancer. There are several methods used today to help alleviate pain in patients. The National Cancer Institute&#8217;s (NCI) web site discusses medicines used to alleviate pain, such as antidepressants, morphine or over-the-counter pain relievers.</p>
<p>The NCI also mention certain treatments that don&#8217;t involve medications. These methods use massages, acupuncture treatments, rhythmic breathing and biofeedback to find a solution for a patient&#8217;s pain. All of these treatments can assist with treating swelling or severe aches often associated with cancer.</p>
<p>Every individual is different, and their bodies are going to react differently to medication and therapy. You should always inform your doctor of recurring pain so he or she can give you advice given on finding a pain-relieving treatment that fits your particular situation.</p>
<p>Your doctor can find a means to administer pain control when you are taking treatments for cancer. All that is needed is some basic information from you about where the pain is and how long it lasts. Fighting cancer does not have to be a never ending uphill battle. Instead, it can be made a more manageable experience thanks to proper medications and therapies administered by a physician.</p>

They say their investigation shows the Earth is 70 million years younger than the 4.537 billion-year-old planet &#8220;we had previously imagined&#8221;. To confirm Earth&#8217;s age, the team compared elements in its mantle to those in meteorites that are the same age as the Solar System.</p>
<p>The crux of its conclusion was that the formation of the planet took much longer than previously thought. The scientists studied this timescale by looking at how long Earth took to &#8220;accrete&#8221;, or grow, as smaller &#8220;planetary embryos&#8221; smashed together to form it.</p>
<p>&#8220;The collisions caused part of the planet to melt, and allow metal to segregate to the centre of the Earth to form the core.  So [during this process], the planet differentiated into its molten metal core and outer-lying mantle. The longer this process took, the later the Earth was &#8220;born&#8221; in its current size and geological form.&#8221; explained Dr John Rudge, from Cambridge University, UK, who led the research.</p>
