I freaked out a little after hearing Friendster will be shutting down this May. I’m a great fan of this social networking site where I uploaded hundreds of my photos. I even created another account for more photo space. But, I gradually forgot about it after becoming a Facebook fan, although my account remains active until now. Hearing that they will be shutting down, I instantly logged in and back up my files including that of wifey.

For now, I already have lots of important files in my computer. I’m sure the use of data backup software is really helpful. Losing important files is so frustrating and irritating. I had a bad experience on that one before where I lost thousands of my photos. In just few minutes I lost all the photos I treasured forever and wasn’t able to salvage even one of it.

That is the reason I’m taking precautions now especially that I’m not just keeping photos. There are other important files I’m holding on to now. Having a good back up system will give me some peace of mind.

Why do we crave for food, as we are hungry? Why do we feel insecure and scared when we are in total darkness? These behaviors are not unusual, as it may seem. But we didn’t think this simple human instinct has been passed on generations from our great ancestors when they started to roam the earth. How can it be passed on?

In biology, memory is present if the state of a biological system depends on its past history in addition to present conditions. If this memory is recorded in the genetic material and stably inherited through cell division (mitosis or meiosis), it is genetic. This genetic memory is inherited in our DNA by survival means.

Why? DNA is the only storage medium involved in the transfer of information to the next generation. There is a saying about survival of the fittest. It’s true, where human evolution apparently prepared our species to become possibly the best and clever living being able to adapt to different challenges and environments. For example, deep into your memory banks, your great-great-great grandfather had been attacked by shark five hundred years ago. Or he witnessed a shark attack and he had a phobia. Would that life-changing experience be useful in developing survival knowledge and possibly encoded in genes and passed on to you?

Traits information processed genetic or ancestral memory that slowly becomes our earliest memories in handling certain survival skills or knowledge. This is not dejÃ vu involved here. Recent discoveries about the idea also may affect us much more than we can imagine. It has been long said that our appearance is determined by combination of our parents’ genes. Through research studies, certain disorders are directly linked to our genetic history. In addition, our aptitudes, musical and athletic ability, even our emotional traits are significantly affected by our genetic roots.

DNA builds everything concerning every living creature, including memory. Some memories may just be built in. Not many think of instincts as memory. But how does a newborn deer know how to run from a wolf? Or is it consciousness playing a role here? Or is it genetics? Although there still not enough concrete proof to link genetic memory to our common sense and other abilities, the question is whether you choose to believe or not. Probably, DNA testing technology will bring us deeper solution of the world of genetics.

I had a glimpse of the news today where I learned about the brutal killings of two car sales personnel. I won’t go into the details as it’s not appropriate in here. Just that their companies weren’t able to get a good look at the suspects since they did not have security cameras installed in their premises.

After the incident, they called out every car dealership in the country about the importance of having security devices. It is really sad to hear that kind of news. But, the crime might have a different outcome if there are security cameras capturing the events that unfold. Some people think twice before doing awful things by just seeing security devices.

Nowadays, it is not really advisable to trust people especially strangers even if they pose to be customers. They might turn out to be the worst of people and it might be too late to do anything about it. However, it is easier to turn down criminals if they were caught on tape. Security devices can be of great help in bad times.

It’s been debated that it’s the computer monitor that’s hurting our eyes, and that typing can have negative effects on our bones and mobility, but recent figures show that it’s what we can’t see that hurts us the most. Computer equipment, such as monitors, wires and other gadgets, is responsible for 78,000 visits to the ER room over a period of 12 years, figures cited by WebMD reveal.

Researchers from the Center for Injury Research and Policy, the Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, and the Ohio State University College of Medicine reveal in the July 2009 issue of the American Journal of Preventive Medicine that, from what numbers say, people simply don’t see the computer equipment they have in their homes because it has become such an integral part of their lives. Consequently, they trip over it or otherwise hurt themselves, which in itself is something that should be further investigated because of the whopping 732% increase registered in recent years.

Speaking strictly numbers, “58.9% of injuries involved moving the computer or a component. Also, 15.4% of injuries were related to fixing, installing, or plugging in a computer, and 6.7% to using one. The most common diagnosis in all age groups was laceration – 58.4% to the extremities and 41.3% to the head. Contusions and abrasions were the second most common injury.” WebMD further says.

While incidents around the house are bound to happen, the incidence of PC-related injuries should be by no means overlooked, researchers stress. Lara B. McKenzie, PhD, of the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Center for Injury Research and Policy in Columbus, Ohio, stresses that establishing the causes of these incidents will also lead to finding means to prevent them, which, at this point, is vital especially in the case of small children.

Like I said in my previous post, I am currently looking for a web site hosting provider since my contract will expire in the next few months. What better time to acquire a PDA than today?

That is the question that bugs me almost every day. For the past few months I no longer have the means to monitor my blogs whenever I want to. I’m already spending much of my time in my training place. Plus, my schedule is shifting; graveyard, afternoon and morning. With that I’m losing lots of opportunities in blogging.
